Ethan Zuckerman, associate professor of public policy, communication and information and director of the UMass Initiative for Digital Public Infrastructure, writes that despite liking Facebook, he is suing the platform’s parent company, Meta, in an effort to ensure that users have more control over what appears on their feeds. He says his lab at UMass Amherst has developed a tool they call Unfollow Everything 2.0, with the goal “to let users pick the algorithms that filter out the content they don’t want to see and select content that interests them, rather than giving this power to platforms like Facebook.”
