A Pre-College Program

for

Tomorrow’s STEM leaders

Program dates: July 28–August 10, 2024

A unique opportunity

The Massenberg Summer STEM Institute is a free, fully-funded residential summer pre-college program located at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for rising 10th graders from underserved communities in New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Generously sponsored by the Samuel Massenberg Foundation and the UMass Amherst colleges of information and computer sciences, engineering, natural sciences, and education, this unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity provides eligible students the chance to explore academic pathways and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, while getting a feel for life on campus at one of the world’s leading research universities.

In addition to group activities, each student will be individually supported and provided with professional guidance on their plans for finishing high school and entering college.

Once per session, students take a day trip to Boston to visit technology companies (in 2019, this included a trip to the Google campus) and learn about career opportunities after college.

All students will participate in group projects and will make a final presentation at the end of the institute. Parents are invited to attend this final presentation, along with a day of workshops to learn more about how to support their young scholar’s future in STEM.
