I was previously a fellow of both the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pims.math.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/killamlaureates.ca\/\" rel=\"nofollow\">Killam Trusts<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ubc.ca\" rel=\"nofollow\">University of British Columbia<\/a> where I was based in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.ubc.ca\/cs-research\/lci\" rel=\"nofollow\">Laboratory for Computational Intelligence<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.ubc.ca\" rel=\"nofollow\">Department of Computer Science<\/a>. I completed my PhD in <a href=\"http:\/\/learning.cs.toronto.edu\" rel=\"nofollow\">machine learning<\/a> in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cs.toronto.edu\" rel=\"nofollow\">Department of Computer Science<\/a> at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.utoronto.ca\" rel=\"nofollow\">University of Toronto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Prospective Students<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Note:<\/strong> I am not taking new honors, MS or PhD students for fall 2026. Please check back for opportunities starting in fall 2027.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Research Interests<\/h3>\n<p>From a methodological perspective, my current research focuses on the development of machine learning models and algorithms that are both robust and efficient. The <a href=\"https:\/\/groups.cs.umass.edu\/reml\/\">REML Lab<\/a> studies multiple aspects of robustness including robustness to uncertainty and missing data, as well as multiple aspects of efficiency including data efficiency, computational scalability, and communication efficiency. The Lab&#8217;s foundations are in probabilistic machine learning and deep learning. Recent research topics include modeling sparse and irregularly sampled time series, methods for learning from scarce time series data data (including domain adaptation, active learning and Bayesian deep learning), and optimizing models for resource-constrained and real-time deployment. My lab has been supported by multiple large-scale collaborative research grants including the <a href=\"https:\/\/md2k.org\/\">MD2k Center<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/mdotcenter.org\/\">mDOT Center<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/massaitc.org\/\">MassAITC<\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/iobt.illinois.edu\/\">IoBT Collaborative Research Alliance<\/a>.
