Faculty at UMass CICS will provide content and leadership during the <span style=\"color: #881c1c\"><strong>mentored research experience with a UMass lab<\/strong><\/span> (e.g., a 4-5 week paired apprenticeship with a Ph.D. student on a topic planned and vetted by a faculty member).<\/p>\n<p>This program will provide students with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>increased <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #881c1c;text-decoration: underline\">knowledge and confidence<\/span><\/span> in research environments;<\/li>\n<li>the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #881c1c;text-decoration: underline\">knowledge and practice necessary<\/span><\/span> to apply to Ph.D. research positions;<\/li>\n<li>increased awareness of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"color: #881c1c;text-decoration: underline\">pathways to long-term careers<\/span><\/span> in computing-based research;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #881c1c\">exposure to research areas<\/span> and different applications of computing;<\/li>\n<li>a basic understanding of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #881c1c\">research methods in computer science<\/span>, including practice in how to approach and frame a research question, how to move from a research question to designing a project, and how to interpret results, including failure as a necessary part of the research process;<\/li>\n<li>strategies for <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #881c1c\">combatting imposter phenomenon and stereotype threat<\/span>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 18pt\">EMBER is a college-wide effort with participation from<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section
