Sunghoon Ivan Lee, PhD
Principal Investigator
Ivan Lee is a Manning Faculty Fellow and an Associate Professor in the College of Information and Computer Sciences, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at UMass Amherst. He received his PhD in Computer Science (with Outstanding Research Award), MS in Computer Science, and MS in Electrical Engineering, all from the University of California Los Angeles in 2010, 2013, and 2014, respectively. From 2014 to 2016, he was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School.
Ivan is a recipient of the NSF CRII Award (2018) and the NIH Trailblazer Award for Young Investigators (2018). His work has won a number of featured article awards, best paper awards, best demo awards, and runner-ups at premier academic venues including IEEE TBME, TNSRE, JBHI, ACM SenSys, and ACM MobiSys. He is currently an Editor of IEEE EMBC and an Associate Editor of IEEE OJEMB and ACM HEALTH. He is also serving as a Technical Committee Member on Wearable Biomedical Sensors and System of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), and a Steering Committee Member of the Center for Personalized Health Monitoring at the Institute of Applied Life Sciences of UMass Amherst. Ivan has served as the General Conference Chair for several premier conferences in the area of wearable computing and health informatics, including ACM SenSys and IEEE BSN. Ivan also frequently serves on scientific review panels for funding agencies such as the NSF and NIH. Particularly, he served as a co-chair of the study section (review panel) for the NCMRR Early Career Research Award, NICHD, NIH in 2022. Ivan has earned recognition within UMass Amherst with the Armstrong Research Award, the Lilly Fellowship for Teaching Excellence, and the ADVANCE Fellowship for Faculty Equity.

Juhyeon Lee
PhD Student
Juhyeon is a Ph.D. student in Computer Science. She joined the AHHA Lab in Fall 2019. Her research interest is applying machine learning techniques to health data to improve the mobile health system. Before joining the lab, she worked as a research engineer at Robotics Lab, LG Electronics. She received the M.S. degree from KAIST and the B.S. degree from Ewha Womans University both in Electrical Engineering.

Yunda Liu
PhD Student
Yunda Liu is a PhD student in Computer Science who joined the AHHA Lab in Fall 2019. His research interests include the applications of machine learning in the area of human health in order to make positive clinical impact. He received both his MS degree and BS degree in Computer Science from South China University of Technology.

Ramita (Mimi) Dhamrongsirivadh Incoming PhD StudentKai-Chun Liu
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Kai-Chun Liu is a visiting postdoctoral research scholar in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and joined the AHHA Lab in Spring 2023. He completed both his PhD and MS from the Department of Biomedical Engineering at National Yang-Ming University. From 2020 to 2023, he was a postdoctoral scholar in the Research Center for Information Technology Innovation (CITI) at Academia Sinica. His main research topics include pervasive healthcare, wearable computing, machine learning, and bio-signal processing.
